Calvin, Hobbes, and Communicating
Filed Under Books, Christian Living, Fun
I am a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan. So my interest was piqued when I saw Fred Sanders article entitle, What You Can Learn from Calvin and Hobbes about the Message and the Medium. In addition to being an excellent piece on the comic, it is also a thoughtful critique of mass marketing and Christianity. Check it out for a good read.

I’m also a big Calvin and Hobbes fan. That was an excellent piece. No wonder so many of our youth are weary of t-shirt Christianity. The problem he addresses partially explains why Michael Vick can so casually say he “found Jesus” as a way to evoke some sympathy for his self-inflicted wounds and why that statement causes so much rolling of the eyes.
I always loved the depth that was not always so well hidden in the strips. There seems to be a true undercurrent of wisdom. My favorite was when Calvin screamed at his mother when she had a room full of guests. He was told to come to her and not yell. After he approached, he asked what to do about the dog poop on his shoes which he still had on his feet.
I tend to agree with the bumper stickers and t-shirts numbing our society, although we have a few.
