I can’t believe that U2’s album, The Joshua Tree, was released twenty years ago today. I feel so old! The Joshua Tree was the first tape I ever owned. You can imagine my nine-year-old glee at opening that small Christmas present to reveal the now famous black and white album cover. It remains to this day my favorite album of any genre. I’ll give you, the readers of The Sweet Dropper, the chance to answer one, none, or all of the following questions:

  1. What was the first album (regardless of media it was recorded on) that you ever owned?
  2. What is your favorite U2 album?
  3. Can you believe that The Joshua Tree is twenty years old?

First Album: Alabama’s “You Got the Touch”, I think?

Favorite U2 album: Right now, it’s a tie between “Achtung Baby” and “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb”

Yes, I believe “Joshua Tree” is twenty years old. We’re old, Joe. Today, I feel it.

    1. I can’t remember the first vinyl I bought myself. At this moment, I am listening to a 1967 Dean Martin album my parents had, ‘Welcome to My World’, which I listened to over and over again as a child. It’s still gold, Jerry…GOLD!

    2. My favorite U2 album? I’m old school U2, so ‘October’ and ‘War’ are still hard to beat. ‘Joshua Tree’ is a close third.

    3. I remember buying the first ‘Joshua Tree’ LP out of the shipping box at BeBop Records in Starkville. I was blown away by the ‘With or Without You’ video on MTV while on a spring break trip with friends and purchased the LP the next week when it went on sale. All this to say, NO, I cannot believe 20 years have passed since then.

First Album (Vinyl): One of the Grand Funk Railroad records as I recall.
    Favorite U2 album: Who?
Can I believe? Again, Who? What?
